The Community Child and Adolescent Treatment Service (CCATS) provide a range of community based mental health treatment services to children and adolescents, and their families.

Population Served

Children and adolescents ages 5 to 18 years and their families in the Winnipeg area who are experiencing emotional, behavioural, or psychiatric difficulties which may be related to:

  • Depression
  • Disruptive behaviour, withdrawal or isolation
  • Severely inhibited functioning in either school or home
  • Anxiety
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Attachment and separation
  • Gender, sexuality, and identity
  • Psychotic symptoms which are not serious enough to need hospitalization

Referral Process

Referrals are accepted from parents, older teenagers (16+), schools, physicians, other health service providers, hospitals, and agencies through the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Centralized Intake Service at 204-958-9660.

Services Offered

Treatment services are provided by a multidisciplinary team of mental health clinicians with a commitment to serving communities with diverse needs in a culturally respectful, safe, and inclusive environment. Family/care provider involvement is supported and encouraged in the client’s treatment. Initially, clients may be offered a brief intervention with client engagement to identify immediate concerns to develop strategies to address concerns at the time of referral to the program.

Treatment interventions may include:

  • Individual sessions with the client directly.
  • Parent-child and/or family sessions depending on the age of the client.
  • Parent support to assist with strategies that could be group-focused interventions or with the assigned mental health clinician.
  • Outreach to assist clients and family/care providers that includes a diverse population such as immigrant/refugee clients and families.
  • Systems intervention as indicated in the care of the client.
  • School consultation may occur with support teachers available to assist with school observations, school intervention and planning in partnership with the various school divisions and MATC.
  • Psychiatry/Psychology consultation may be considered in discussion with the mental health clinician.
  • Clients may be offered a brief intervention of up to four sessions to address important issues more immediately after referral.
